Movie: Nenu Sailaja ( నేను శైలజ )
Producer(s):PV Ravikishore ( Sri Sravanti Movies Banner)
Cast: Ram Pothineni, Keerthi SureshStory/Direction: Kishore Tirumala
After getting success with Pandaga chesko, and failing at box office with Shivam, Ram is coming with his latest offering Nenu Sailaja, where Sailaja is played by Keerthi Suresh, who is a child artist turned to female lead. She is going to be lot busy in 2016 even though she has handful of movies released. Ram is working with Kishore Tirumala, who created lot of buzz when the teaser got released with dialog said by female lead "I love you, but I am not in love with you." Ram plays a DJ role in this movie. The director himself writes the story. This is his first movie in Telugu but he has a movie in Tamil which didn't fare well. DSP scores music for this album, who after Kumari 21F is pretty high. This album offers 6 songs, off which one is a bit song so that takes to 5 full songs. Sirivennela, Sagar, RJS and chandrabose wrote the songs where as DSP has his standard singers to sing the songs. Lets see what did DSP do after Kumari 21F.
1. Night is still young
Lyrics: Sagar
Singer(s): David Simon
Ram plays a DJ role in this movie, so DSP composes a perfect youthful song with perfect mix of the instruments and background music. David Simon doesn't sound odd whenever he deviates from the flow of the song. A perfect song for clubs, parties and dance bars. The tune is catchy, with words fitting the tune. After DSP, I guess its his brother's turn to write the song. If he is the same Sagar. Probably both brothers are carrying over the legacy of their father one or the other way which is good to know. What makes this song different is the perfect blend of singing, tune, and instruments. Its stylish, energetic, pacy, and non-stop at at times makes one go for it on the dance floor while night is still young.
2. Crazy Feeling
Lyrics: Ramajogayya Sastry
Singer(s): Prudhvi Chandra
Craziness is for sure a feeling. What is the reason one to have that feeling is obvious, but is explained in this song with a line up of examples. RJS is for sure a multi lingual lyricists who rarely writes in Telugu, uses all latest examples to define the crazy feeling about love. DSP seems to have inspired, adapted an yesteryear song in interludes, and there after he took it off on his own. RJS captures all the feelings of youth when one is in love. DSP scores a song that will click well in youth. This song will for sure leave a crazy feeling in them.
3. Masti Masti
Lyrics: Anantha Sriram
Singer(s): Sooraj Santhosh, Swetha Mohan
Sooraj sounded like Sagar at few places. Even though not listed in credits, may be its Sagar who accompanied Sooraj as chorus and dominated the sound. Swetha Mohan was fine as long as she was going at normal pitch. She didn't sound right when she changes the pitch. DSP reminds few songs in the starting and during interludes. However he intelligently brought in variations to the song with interludes and the chorus to make it different. Ananth Sriram is not seen quite often he used to be see earlier. Not sure why. This song is yet another decent song in this album.
4. Sailaja Sailaja
Lyrics: Bhaskara Bhatla
Singer(s): Sagar
Starting of the song is very good that sets the mood and backdrop of the song. Sagar should have said the word Sailaja/Mohabbat a little better. He doesn't sound comfortable the way he said it. Interlude is perfect. Bhaskar Bhatla comes up with the list of what doesn't change to ask why Sailaja has changed. Again DSP reminds an yesteryear song during second interlude for a moment. However that doesn't have to do anything with the stanzas. Having said that this song is an instant winner for its variety and the fun it has in terms of lyrics.
5. Em Cheppanu
Lyrics: Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry
Singer(s): Karthik
Karthik, DSP, Sirivennela the song details itself is so pleasant to hear. Karthik rocks this song. DSP scores yet another beautiful song. Karthik and Sirivennela takes this song to next level. The lyrics, singing, instruments, orchestration gel so well that this makes a perfect song. The words from Sirivennela flows leaving an excellent feeling. DSP could have done a better job to breakup of words so that the richness of lyrics is maintained. Even though he did decent job, he could have done a little better to make few people like me more happy. When someone is giving we ask more, its more like that than a complaint. Mainly at places like "ఎడారి కంటు వెళ్ళకుండ ఆపి వాన చెలిని". When a melody and good lyrics goes hand in hand not sure which causes other to be better. But both when work together, the output is for sure excellent. On the top, when we add a good singer then nothing can be better than this in any album. However in this song which is better its hard to decide, whether its lyrics or the tune.
6. Ee Premaki
Lyrics: Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry
Singer(s): Chitra
These days when Chitra garu sings, nothing can match it in the album even if its a short song or a bit. When Susheela garu almost stopped singing, when she sang a bit in film Duet, it was like a feast, same here with Chitra garu singing this short bit. When the bit ends it gives a disappointment of ending so soon. Movie makers could have atleast made this a full song, and could have used a bit in movie, that way purpose could have been solved. Anyways until next song of Chitra garu, this should be fine for fans.
Pick(s) of the album: Entire album
DSP and Sukumar provided a hit in terms of Kumari 21F. He proved why he is where he is in the film industry. With Nannaku Premato coming again with the same combination, this movie coming in between should be a hatrick hits of DSP. Its been a while that entire album is audible without skipping the songs here and there. DSP scores perfect with this album. Not sure how much it helps to Ram, but will have to wait and see.
To start with, Nenu…Sailaja is simple love story of Hari and Sailaja. Hari narrates his own story and how Sailu came into life. The film’s first half is pretty refreshing. Kudos to first-timer director Tiruamala Kishore who handled the film in a matured fashion. In addition to novel screenplay, the catchy and laugh-evoking dialogues make the film a good watch.
ReplyDeleteAlso the film has resemblances to several love drams that were told before. It’s the second half that mars the film. Post interval, the sluggish narrative disappoints. Pre-climax and climax portions are pretty predictable. Also there’re several holes in the script that director Kishore didn’t fill. Kishore should have put enough attention here. Had the second half was worked hard, it’d have been different. On whole, Nenu..Sailaja is an average film with a one-time watch. It’s good for dates. For others, wait to watch it on TV.
