My heart is beating - Music Review

My Heart Is Beating (2012)
Music: Michael Makkal
CAST: Hemanth, Rajitha

Another movie audio released, with a new music director on the block. Even the actors are not familiar. However the album in-lay card shows all familiar singer names. Didnt hear of Michael Makkal before. That shouldnt matter for the album. Atleast his choice of singers attracted me to listen to the songs. How Michael did for this yet another supposedly love story movie ( atleast the title suggests ). Seven songs in an album should really add value to the film for this kind of movies. This kind of films will definitely need lot of help from music department. Need to see how much value Michael added to this film.
My Heart Is Beating
Artist(s): Karthik, Pranavi
It looked like a promising start, with a nice smooth piano/key board tune, and Karthik starting it off. However after that there is some issue in synchronization of voice and instrumentation. Both didn't sync well. Adding Guitar complicated further. Somehow all three went in different paths ( singers and orchestra). Felt Pranavi struggled and her accent was artificial. Michael couldn't succeed in this song to impress.
Happy Happy Ga
Artist(s): Hemachandra

once again a good start. For a moment feared the fate of the song, however this was much better. Hemachandra is still not consistent with his voice. Main quality of singer is to make impression or identity with his voice, but new age singers due to many reasons are not able to achieve that. However he did good justice to this song. Except for excessive dragging of ga, ra, which was little way too long at a times not sounding bettter. Michael did a lot better in this song. This songs goes on fine. No further issues. Lyrics are apt.

Ipudipude Edola Avutondi  Naakila
Artist(s): Hemachandra
Hemachandra sounded entirely different in this song compared to the earlier song. Good attempt by Michael to give a melody. However he has to work on orchestration. Some disturbance when trying to listen the singer. Few tracks didn't go well dominating the singer. The rhythm by itself didn't add value to the song. Interludes. All the three songs have really nice starts, but some how he is getting lost in execution of the complete song. May be experience will let him learn. Any melody needs to be singer oriented and instruments should assist the singer to elevate the song. Hemachandra and lyrics are highlight for this song.

Speedune Motham Penchyseye
Artist(s): Joanna Sirlin

Any song sung in english or telugu or any language is fine. you can mix any number of languages but  trying to sound one language as other language doesn't appeal much. There is similarity to the way maha maha song is sung. Who knows this might be a hit too. Nothing much to say about this song.

Gathamanta Ika Karigindi
Artist(s): Deepu, Geetha Madhuri
This song has disconnectivity the way it started and the way male singer started. Something is missing in this song. Deepu sang it fine, tune was not bad. Somehow doesn't appeal much. Geeta madhuri has got very less footage in this song. Not sure she would have added anything much to the song.

 Thana Kosame Vachanane
Artist(s): Karthik
Love based movies should have one pathos before climax. Guess this is that one song. It is a situational song, could suit well for the movie.  Karthik does justice. lyrics are apt. Song goes such a way the we think song is done, but there its starts again with another stanza.
Kalaalu Aagelaa
Artist(s): Chitra, Sri Krishna

Is it female time now for a patho? This song sounded lot better just because of singers were able to express. Chitra's fantastic rendering is well supported by Sri Krishna. Though it was sung on a sad note, poeple who like sad songs will embrace this song.

My Heart Is Beating (Theme Song)
Theme songs instrumentation version. Could be coming in bits and pieces in movie. Unless seen in movie cant say much how it works.

Pick(s) of the Album: Ippudippude, Happy Happy Gaa, Kaalalu Aagelaa

Though this music cannot grab people to the movie, but it was just sufficient this genre of movies. The team should be commended making decent attempt with good choice of singers and decent lyrics, not over doing anything. Now it is up-to the cast and the crew of the movie to decide the fate of the movie. Somehow couldn't get the information of who wrote the lyrics.

  1. I am a great music lover and do possess some music knowledge. I heard these songs couple of days back and since then I just got stuck to them.
I agree, you never heard of him otherwise you wouldn’t have been in a haste to write this review without a serious research. Please be kind to read the counterpart to your review.
The first song is extraordinarily orchestrated with fresh experiments. The humming starts with Piano, then the urge of ‘Mukhra’ pulls you little more with the guitar and intro lyrics, that makes you more impatient and finally the ‘Mukhra’ begins with beats and just pulls you in without any chance. Yes, the female voice could have been better and more stylish, but I can ignore that as the feel is served and she managed very well with Karthik during the ‘’rounders’’ in the end. I call it a marvelous song indeed.
The second song, I guess, you are fond of folk songs more than other genres. You are right, it’s a peppy and nice number, but about GA and RA, I think, that’s perfectly fine as its little different for this kind of numbers. Let’s leave it to the composer, it’s his composition and his feel, we can’t challenge that as amateurs.
The third one, ipudipude is one of my favorite again; I have heard in very few times Hemachandra singing so well in any romantic song, the credit goes to the Music Director. I just loved this one and again I am just mesmerized with Michael’s experiment at every stage, he is fantastic in orchestration. You just couldn’t understand the fresh attempt.
The fourth song, the RAP numbers is very good too. I liked the pace and I liked the way Michael utilized a new voice to render this song, it could have been very risky but he made it possible. Moreover, he gave a new amazing female singer to the industry; Joanna Sherlin
The fifth one, Gathamantha, another melody number with peppy feel…finely composed and arranged. Deepu sang very well and about Geetha Madhuri’s less contribution in the song, I guess, it’s because of the story in the movie for this song.
The sixth song, Tana Kosame is again a fantastic experiment by Michael. You will not find many songs with this kind of new music arrangement in the genre of semi-classical music. The way classical instruments are used gave great variation. Where you thought ‘the song is going to end you surprised that it started again’…for me, that was the best part, very fresh and intelligent approach. The song is very touching indeed. I didn’t expect such amazing and rich ending, where the lyrics got blended with the ‘Aalap’. Only an educated musician with a master brain can compose a song like this, Karthik too did a fantastic job.
The seventh one is very special; bringing back Chitra ji to Telugu industry again after a long time. This song is very unique, only piano, strings and voice…reminds me of the classics of European movies.
Theme music is the heart of any movie, whether it is God Father or Titanic. Have you ever heard of SONATA? This is called Sonata and very few musicians in India have such high knowledge to compose like this. The Violins creating a lovely body, the Saxophone is giving the counterpart and the Piano is accompanying sweetly and steadily. It’s a masterpiece.

Michael is an in-house team member of MM Keeravani ji. Suresh Babu and RP Patnaik brought him in Hyderabad when the industry didn’t have good Violinists, as my Google research says. We should have an open mind even being a voluntary or amateuristic music critic . It’s a humble request to be more serious on your research before writing a public review on any topic in future. However, writing in public, doesn’t make much of difference to talented people. So when fresh air entire our living room it is bound to give a different feeling altogether. Its upto us whether to keep our windows close and breath in stale air. Good Luck Michael.

  2. We all know that Tollywood's alma matter Chennai is the base for most of the recordings till the 90's. At that time several producers and music composers had strived really hard to make Hyderabad as the home recording city for most of the tollywood productions. But since Chennai has already had more musicians, many still opted to record in Chennai. At that time, Producer Suresh gaaru, Keeravaani gaaru and RP Patnaik gaaru tried hard to bring young talents to Hyd and thats how they found Michael Makhal(Violinist) gaaru.
I liked the music as it has got a fresh feeling. He is a literate in Music and he knows it way better than us about Synchronizing Vocals, Orchestra and Rhythm. As a composer I can say that each song is like any fruit from a music literate and that too with such a great quality for a small budgeted film. Let us hope that his music will bring a change in Tollywood. Let us please encourage him instead of criticizing on an unknown subject called 'Music Theory'.

  3. Thanks for both of you (Anup and anonymous) for taking time to provide feedback and suggestions. Also to let me know the details of Michael, the effort he has put in, more details on songs and other details.

I might not exaggerate the contribution of Michael in this album, I might not explicitly say his work quality and knowledge. Many technical terms sound great in musical world, but that doesnt mean anything if music is not conveyed to listener. There are some presentation or execution problems. I wish Micheal overcomes that.

Though I am not profesional critic feedback helps a knowledgible person as they knows what they are doing.

As aptly said telugu film industry need some real good talent from within telugu world..The creative talent is the key and Michael looking at your feedback is here to sustain.

I wish him all the best.
