Gabbar Singh - Music Review

Audio/Music Review

Movie:                 Gabbar Singh ( 2012 )
Director:             S Harish Shankar
Producer:           Bandla Ganesh
Cast:                   Pawan Kalyan, Sruti Hassan
Music:                 Devi Sri Prasad
When Pawan is casted in any movie, the take away from movie is only Pawan. Rest all becomes redundant. I guess thats how fans look upto Pawan. Pawan's movie in general are musical hits. Most of the movies had inspiring songs, songs that made fans crazy about him. DSP is one of the high profile music directors who has worked with Pawan to give musical hits in Pawans earlier movies. So obviously there are high expectations on the Gabbar Singh Audio that released on 15th April 2012. Lets see how songs fared.
1. Dekho Dekho Gabbar Singh

Artist(s): Baba Sehgal, Naveen Madhav
Lyricist: Rama Jhogaya Sastry

Not sure when the relation of DSP and Baba Sehgal has started for title song or a song on hero to elevate the character. However its high time for DSP to revisit his thought process to make him to sing the same stuff again and again. At the same, he needs to revisit the tunes and come out of the routine stuff. This song has become monotonous. Rama jogayya sastry has infused many words so that it would become easy to Baba Sehgal to sing. By the way DSP every Singh song doesnt need to be Singh is king.
2. Akasam AmmayaitheArtist(s): Shankar Mahadevan, Gopika Poornima
Lyricist: Chandrabose
DSP mostly in this album reminds other songs. This song is no different. The only different in this song is beats/rhythm. Shankar Mahadevan had nothing much to do in this song. Chandrabose the way he talks in music shows doesnt reflect in his songs. He needs to work on his lyrics. He tries to bring in rhyming words, but doesnt work all the time.

3. Mandu BaabulamArtist(s): Kota Srinivasa Rao
Lyricist: Sahithi
Sahithi gets another song in this album. Making Kota singing this song is an experiment by DSP which succeeded. Song Beat, Kota, Chorus, lyrics suited aptly for this type of the song. A short bit, but very well executed.

4. PillaaArtist(s): Vaddepalli Srinivas, Pawan Kalyan
Lyricist: Devi Sri Prasad
This song is rehash of earlier song, lacks freshness. However DSP added his own lyrics and Pawan's voice to make this presentable to fans. Vaddepalli's voice sounded like Kailash Kher. Routine song from DSP only Pawan's screen presence will add value to this song.
5. Dil SeArtist(s): Karthik, Shweta Mohan
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar
Karthik and Shweta Mohan gets a melody number and did their job perfectly. This song again lacks freshness.  Other than that, this song goes well. Will be hummable. Bhaskarabhatla came up with decent lyrics. However in the modern era love definition, Bhaskarbhatla tells "gunde jaari gallantayyinde, teera chooste nee daggara unde" was a beautiful way of telling the feeling but the line following that, neelo edo teeyani vishamunde, naa vontloki sarruna paakinde, didnt suit well with the flow. Anyway as long as song goes well, these are fine. This song is winner in this album.
6. Kevvu KekaArtist(s): Mamta Sharma, Kushi Murali
Lyricist: Sahithi
When DSP has become a master of item songs, each high profile movie will have high expectations not only to make another song and also beat the earlier songs. However it will be a tough task for DSP to meet his expectations each and every time. He for sure gave a different number. Since its an item song, can never predict how huge it is. Sahithi's lyrics are decent, but this song definetely lacks energy levels and the momentum that this type of song requires when comparision comes. But this song has its own merits. Need to see how this song fares after the movie released. Kevvu Keka is mostly used across the world. So the song will be catchy thats for sure.
Pick(s) of the Album: Dil Se, Mandu Babulam, Pilla
DSP tried to cater to the fans of Pawan, delivered to them, comes out as winner. However he forgot that there will be different expectations for his music albums. He satisfied one sector but disappointed other sector by lacking freshness in the album. The songs are catchy, pacy, but doesnt appeal general audience whose expectations are different from DSP.
