Nannaku Prematho Audio Review

Movie: Nannaku Premato ( నాన్నకు ప్రేమతో )
Producer(s): BVSN Prasad
Cast: Tarak, Rakul Preet Singh, Jagapati Babu, Rajendra Prasad
Direction: Sukumar

Music: Devi Sri Prasad

Tarak's 25th film in his career as an actor is taken care of by Sukumar in terms of Nannaku Premato. Tarak's hair style, Sukumar's stylish taking has created lot of buzz. Added to that Rakul Preet Singh, Rajendra prasad and Jagapathi Babu raised the expectations of the movie. Even though Tarak performance was critically acclaimed, the movie didn't get huge success at box office, so every one is eagerly waiting for this movie to be successful. Sukumar after 1 Nenokkadine's failure with Mahesh Babu too is eagerly waiting to prove his mettle.

Nannaku Premato as title suggests is family drama with some action in Sukumar style. The casting suggests the same. It was said that initially Harikrishna was approached to play Tarak's father's role but somehow it didn't materialize. The audio was dedicated to DSP's father Satyamurthy garu who recently passed away. Every one know's the relation between the father and son, how Satyamurty garu used to enjoy the success of DSP. Indeed it was a great gesture. And this related to the movie too as the audio release function shows the same.

DSP scored music and automatically DSP/Sukumar Combination which has become synonym to success. This movie offers 5 songs in which DSP played roles of singer and lyricist. Tarak himself croons a song and a bit of this was released long ago. Chandrabose gets to write 3 songs, which is not common these days. There is always a written magic in the music when DSP composes songs for Sukumar. Their frequency matches so well that the output has always been successful. Having said that lets see where did they go with this album.

1. Follow Follow
Singer(s): Tarak
Lyrics: Devi Sri Prasad

Devi Sri Prasad is slowly becoming a full time lyricists. The number is increasing day by day. His lyrics are not sounding odd as the standard lyricists are writing no different. Mainly if the lyricist is himself the composer of the song, he gets more freedom to change tune or lyrics the way he wants. The song's hero is Tarak for so refreshingly singing the song. He is better than many singers out there. His voice normally is harsh at times but in this song its so pleasant. He showed lot of comfort singing this song. The repeating letters before the word is so simply done without complicating it. Sounded a lot better. DSP surprisingly dominated with lyrics than the tune. At a point in the song, reminds a Kamal's song which is for a flash, but the song goes back to where it was. The trumpets shows the mood of the song. In the starting of the song too, Tarak sounded its a lot of fun promised in this song. This song was the small bit that was released sometime ago. Definetely this song has the trademark of DSP, Sukumar, with added flavor in terms of Tarak, this song is instant hit.

2. Naa manasu Neelo
Singer(s): Devi Sri Prasad. Sharmila
Lyrics: Bhaskara Bhatla

Listening to DSP thought why he sang this song, he for a bit sounded like his brother Sagar, but either way, not sure whether he did good justice the tune he composed. In the earlier song, the dual role worked but here I doubt it. Only the composer in him worked but the singer did not. This song was supposed to fill in the melody expected from Sukumar/DSP combo. It didn't meet their standards due to DSP's singing, but otherwise a good song for the instruments that come in between. Sharmila is limited to saying few words in between. Bhaskarabhatla tried something different but some comparisons in the song doesn't sound right. Interludes are good, but sounded odd at endings. May be DSP wanted to sound them different. Overall a decent song could have been better. It might appeal over time.

3. Dont Stop
Singer(s): Raghu Dixit
Lyrics: Chandrabose

I guess Raghu Dixit filled this song for otherwise Baba Sehgal's song. This song from the start go of the song, sounds repetitive in terms of tune. Some message oriented song for which Raghu struggles at places to sing this song. The beats provide energy but the lyrics and singing doesn't match the energy. Chandrabose talks big but his songs doesn't match his talks. This song is another proof of it. Not sure if Tarak can provide any help on screen other wise pretty ordinary song from DSP/Sukumar.

4. Love me again
Singer(s): Sooraj Santosh
Lyrics: Chandrabose

Chandrabose writes formula lyrics. Jaabilli mallee raada, suryudu mallee raadaa love me again. What all repeats are written to match the word again in Love me Again. Probably a sad song. DSP provides a simple song. Every movie DSP provides a signature tune that automatically gets synonym for that movie. Not sure whether that tune is in this song or in Naa manasu neelo. He some how doesn't take violin to the next level as he always does. Sooraj's singing is not up-to mark mainly when he brings in artificiality in the song with some fake accent. He didn't help the song This could have been a much better song if not for Sooraj's singing.

5. Love Debba
Singer(s): Deepak, Sravana Bhargavi
Lyrics: Chandrabose

After getting mixed feeling with third and fourth song, this song starts a Arabic native tune and quite racy beats. However Sravana Bhairavi and Deepak doesnt match the tune. Deepak brings the nativity with shake in his voice but it ends there. Sravana bhargavi changed the modulation initially which didn't sound good, settles down later on, but again goes back to where she started. Chandrabose doesnt deviate from his mass lyrics. Instead of ice challenge, he changes to juice challenge, tried use meter many times. Even though DSP tried to be different in the song, somehow things didn't work the way he might have wanted to click. Once again its singers fault and not much help from Chandrabose. I guess they didn't quite understand the tune DSP composed. This song too leaves a mixed feeling.

Pick(s) of the album: Follow Follow, Naa manasu Neelo

DSP and Sukumar have been raising their bar so high with each and every movie, people are not ready to accept anything less then their earlier movie. Their combo were successful in Kumari 21F, where DSP gave a beautiful melody after a long time that met their high standards. However with this movie, we cannot surely say they met their standards. Its not fault of the album, but its fault of the standards they set and expectations bar they have set. All their fans hope is that they didn't reach their peak yet and will definitely keep trying to reach their peak before going down trend. This movie lacks their wow factor or the instantly likable factor mainly due to singers.

Some how industry is missing good singers who can elevate ordinary song to great level, instead they are making good songs sound pretty ordinary or sometimes bad. There is every chance that their fans might get disappointed, but Tarak fans might not. They will embrace this album and make it hit. DSP's dedication towards his work is clearly visible when he started his work 3rd day after his greatest loss of his life shows his commitment. Hope this is a pause and he will come back again with Sukumar to meet expectations of their fans. Wish Tarak and the entire team a great success he and his fans are waiting for.
