The Businessman (2011) - Music Review

Mahesh took 3+ yrs for his Khaleja but took less than 6 months for his next movie after block buster Dookudu. End of this year he was able to get out the music of yet another movie with back to back chance to Thaman S as music director. Thaman is extremely lucky to grab this kind of opportunity when many music directors likes of Devi Sri Prasad still didn't get to work with Mahesh the way Thaman has worked.

What made Mahesh and Puri's team work with Thaman, whether Thaman met the requirements for the movie is what that needs to be looked into. Except one song all songs are less than 4 minutes, that shows the focus on the music is less for this movie. I guess Bhaskarabhatla's didn't have to put much effort to write lyrics as the situations of these songs didn't demand any such.
1. Aamchi Mumbai
Artist(s): Ranjith, Rahul Nambiar, Naveen, Aalap Raju
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar

Bhaskara bhatla mixed Hindi and telugu and wrote what ever he wanted. Thaman passion of his own music makes him uses them again and again, he tries to gives glimpses of them occasionally. If not these two, this song should go well with picturization and Mahesh's action scenes. Thaman gave good situational song. Seems like a power packed song which the tune goes along without any issues. Singers did all the justice to the song. Brought enough energy to elevate the song.
2. Bad Boyz
Artist(s): Priya Himesh, Geetha Madhuri
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar

Geeta Madhuri's start was not good, Thaman does all sound tricks to this song, Geeta Madhuri should try to sing natural, She sounds more artificial these days. Tune is nothing refreshing as similar songs are heard many times. Puri, Mahesh will save this song.
3. Businessman (Theme)
Artist(s): Mahesh Babu, Puri Jagannadh
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar

Typical Thaman way of starting a song, Mahesh lended his voice in this song, casual lyrics and typical dialogs of Puri. Purely for masses. Target 10 miles aithe aim 11 miles, kodte dimma tirigi povali, type of dialogs. Singers list is not complete I guess. Heard many voices in the song.

4. Chandamama Navve
Artist(s): Haricharan
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar

I keep complaining of this generation and their likes to music, chandamama annadantlo vetakaram ekkuva kanipistundi. Then thamans sound effects sometimes doesnt go well to my ears. Why cant he just let singers sing naturally. Keeping aside all these, this song was done well. Thaman will be successful in getting this song to get youth singing this song..

5. Pilla Chao
Artist(s): Rahul Nambiar
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar

This is a good attempt in this album. This song will get repeated hearing. Thaman has done this song cleverly to sound it different. Song goes smoothly. Mahesh and Puri will definetely try add to the song.

6. Sir Osthara
Artist(s): Suchitra, Thaman. S
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar

This song has lots of variations. The graph of the song is like a sine wave, the moment you think its going great, it goes down. The moment you write off, it strikes you good. The moment you thing its new, refreshing, you hear some familiar tunes in between. I don't know when Thaman will get off with this passion of the style of singing in falsetto and high pitch. If it would have sung normally without these variations, the song would have stood out. People who got used to this style of songs, will like it.

Pick(s) of the album: Pilla chao, Amchi Mumbai, Sir Osthara

One more average album from Thaman from music perspective, which is more than required for this movie. When Puri and Mahesh are involved in a project, music doesn't need to be outstanding. They both will take care of the movie. The music will not let down the movie, did exactly what is required.
